Martin Gleadow , our canine behaviourist and psychologist has many years experience of dealing with dogs and their behaviour problems. As well as being a dog lover and owner for nearly 50 years, Martin has worked with both individuals and rescue centres in order to rehabilitate problem dogs.
Martin has been involved with Northern Staffordshire Bull Terrier Rescue since it was set up in 1990. He worked alongside Bob Whittall in assessing dogs, home-checking and rehoming. He has also fostered a number of rescued Staffies as well as offering behavioural advice to fosterers and new keepers of rehomed dogs.
As well as providing advice to Staffie owners throughout Great Britain, Martin has extended his experience to all breeds of dog.
During the last year, Martin has been offering advice and working with Animal Concern Cumbria West, training volunteers in “pack leadership skills” and providing rehabilitation advice for problem dogs both in the refuge and in their new homes. During this time he has enabled some difficult dogs to be successfully rehomed.
Martin firmly believes that establishing pack leadership is the key to successful dog training and rehabilitation. Dogs who do not understand their position in the pack (family) can often become confused, stressed and unhappy. Training the owner in calm, assertive, pack leadership skills results in a happy, well trained dog which is calm and submissive.
It is important to realise that whilst Martin’s methods are very effective and successful, they require total commitment from the owner and/or family. However, this has not proved too difficult in the past when dog owners have seen the benefits of his methods within a very short period of time.
Martin covers most of Cumbria, North West Yorkshire and North Lancashire areas. He lives near Kendal and will travel to you, giving one to one training.
